Objectives: Increased arterial stiffness, as one of the most common subclinical target organ damage of hypertension, plays a crucial role in the development of cardiovascular diseases. However, the relationship between the combination of serum uric acid and TG/ HDL-C ratio with increased arterial stiffness has not been clarified. Methods: This study included 2400 participants who participated in a random sampling health survey in Hanzhong rural area. Basic information, body measurement data were collected and blood sample was obtained. All analyses were done using SPSS statistical software, version 22.0 (SPSS, Chicago, IL, USA). Results: Multivariable logistic regression revealed that, in male subjects, when serum uric acid and TG/HDL-C ratio were both at the highest quartiles, increased arterial stiffness OR value was 2.572 compared with the control group, whose serum uric acid and TG/HDL-C ratio were both at the lowest quartiles. But when serum uric acid was at the highest quartiles and TG/HDL-C ratio was at the second quartiles, the OR value was 2.045 compared with the control group. When TG/HDL-C ratio was at the highest quartiles and the serum uric acid was at the third quartiles, the OR value was 2.033 compared with the control group. In female subjects, when serum uric acid and TG/HDL-C ratio were both at the highest quartiles, increased arterial stiffness OR value was 6.3 compared with the control group, while the the OR value was 4.921 when TG/HDL-C ratio was at the highest quartiles and serum uric acid was at the second quartiles compared with the control group. Conclusion: Serum uric acid and TG/HDL-C ratio increased at the same time was independently associated with increased arterial stiffness in both gender.
