Objectives: The prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) has increased in China. The aim of our study was to estimate the prevalence of CKD and to analyze its associated factors in people living in nursing houses in the northern China. Methods: We did a cross-sectional survey and data were obtained from 1278 participants living in nursing houses in Shanxi, Shandong, and Hebei provinces. Items of survey included standard questionnaires, physical examination and blood sample collection. Estimated glomerular filtration was calculated by Cockcroft-Gault formula. CKD was defined as having an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2. Results: The prevalence of CKD in all participants living in nursing houses was 14.87%. Prevalence of CKD was 0.97%, 0.68%, 11.44%, and 43.66% for age group 18–44, 45–59, 60–74, and > = 75yrs respectively. Factors independently associated with decreased kidney function included older age, hyperglycemia and hypertension. Conclusion: Prevalence of Chronic kidney disease is high in people living in nursing houses in northern part of China. Special attention should be paid to people living in nursing houses especially those older than 60 years old.
