A descriptive study of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on non-direct care nurses Although nurse leaders routinely provide direct patient care less than 50% of the time, this study found that the COVID-19 pandemic decreased compassion satisfaction and increased compassion fatigue among non-direct care nurses and exposed nurse leaders to greater levels of vicarious trauma.
