www.Nursing2022.com January l Nursing2022 l 15 I n March 2020, New York City became an early epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the surge of COVID-19 cases, local healthcare institutions either prohibited or greatly limited nursing students from doing hands-on clinical activities. This created the immediate need for nursing schools to develop and submit Alternative Learning Plans to the NY State Department of Education Office of the Professions to provide evidence of how nursing program clinical requirements and student learning outcomes were going to be met. The abrupt switch to remote learning and pandemic-related clinical restrictions led the nursing faculty at a New York-based college to develop a survey to assess the impact of COVID-19 on nursing students’ emotional and learning experiences. This article discusses the survey findings as well as the resulting strategies developed to meet the students’ emotional and educational needs amid the pandemic.
