Abstract: Individuals in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (or questioning), asexual (or allied), intersex (LGBTQAI) community may experience higher levels of trauma than the general population. Trauma-informed care is an evidence-based method of providing care to patients who identify as LGBTQAI to prevent retraumatization of the individual. Therefore, using principles of trauma-informed nursing with these individuals is of utmost importance. Individuals in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (or questioning), asexual (or allied), intersex (LGBTQAI) community may experience higher levels of trauma than the general population. Trauma-informed care is an evidence-based method of providing care to patients who identify as LGBTQAI to prevent retraumatization of the individual.
