A total of 130 patients were included, 36,9% of which underwent cardiovascular surgery. The median age was 12.5 months (RIC 4–27.5), median weight 8.3kg (RIC 5–12). Of those patients, 33% used HFNC as initial treatment, whereas 66% to prevent extubation failure. The rate of success was 72.4% (IC 65,3-79,5). The patients who failed presented a higher median RR, HR upon initiating and 6 hours following treatment and they required more hours of use in comparison to the successful, these differences being statistically significant. In the logistic regression, an association between these variables and failure was found.
