The 20th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Research Society of Ultrasound Stimulation for Fracture Repair (JRSUSFR) was held on January 21, 2017 at Shinagawa Intercity Hall. The JRSUSFR annual meeting was held in the city where the certifying examination for authorized ultrasound specialists by the Japanese Orthopaedic Association was conducted in 2015. However, in 2016, we decided that the annual meeting should be held on the third Saturday of January at Shinagawa Intercity. As the data and place for the meeting has been fixed, please adjust your schedule to attend the meeting. We asked Prof Noriyuki Tsumaki of Cell Induction and Regulation Field, Department of Cell Growth and Differentiation, Center for IPS Cell Research and Application, Kyoto University to provide an educational lecture entitled “The mechanism of chondrocyte differentiation and cartilage regeneration.” In addition, additional topics included (1) Treatment strategy for refractory fractures, (2) Learning from the limit and failure cases on low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS), (3) LIPUS and medical economics, and (4) other basic or clinical studies on LIPUS. JRSUSFR is the only research society in the world that specializes in LIPUS. Some abstracts in English of these subjects will be printed in Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma. This supplement will provide a wonderful opportunity to describe our LIPUS research results to the international community. There was an epigram “Good results come from good experience. Good experience usually comes from bad results,” and Mark Twain left similar words. Prof Urabe, president of the 19th meeting told us that, to improve fracture repair, we should share the knowledge that comes from our study results including failed cases through an unrestrained discussion at this meeting. I also hope so sincerely. At last, I deeply appreciated your attendance on January 21.
