Critical Care Medicine www.ccmjournal.org 375 ability to predict impending death may be improved by novel technological tools (e.g., biomarker screening from small blood samples and noninvasive microchip monitoring of vitals). Therefore, we must be prepared to face the new challenges that can always arise. The collaborative network of basic scientists, laboratory animal veterinarians, and clinicians, as envisioned by the Canadian Critical Care Translational Biology Group, is very important for the reinterpretation and revision of such principles and methodologies.
