To the Editor: Rheumatic diseases are disorders characterized by joint inflammation, but other organs are also affected. Rheumatic diseases are common in China, and the clinical application of azathioprine (AZA), a purine analog immunosuppressant, for these diseases is attracting increasing attention. Although AZA is widely used in the treatment of rheumatic diseases, its clinical application is limited by adverse effects, especially leukopenia.
