Ahealthy 45-year-old male presented for treatment of a large submental biopsy-proven infiltrative and nodular basal cell carcinoma. On physical examination, there was an ill-defined 3.5 · 3.5-cm indurated nodule centrally in the submental region with significant telangiectatic changes and ulcerations. Prior to biopsy, the area had been treated with antibiotics and multiple attempts at incision and drainage by his primary care physician. Given the unique location in a sun-protected area, the patient’s relatively young age, and history of welding for 25 years, the etiology of the tumor was thought to be related to his occupation. Welders are at an increased risk of nonmelanoma skin cancers (NMSCs) due to the intense direct nonsolar radiation.
