Sporotrichosis is a subacutemycosis with aworldwide distribution caused by dimorphic fungi of the Sporothrix schenckii complex. As an emergent disease, over the past 2 decades, the incidence has been on the rise, particularly in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. From 1997 to 2011, 4,188 human cases were recorded at the Evandro Chagas National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (INI/FIOCRUZ), the main referral center for the treatment of this mycosis. Treatment usually requires long-term (average 4 months) administration of itraconazole, potassium iodide, terbinafine, or amphotericin B, depending on the severity and location of the lesions. However, there are cases for which only pharmacological treatment is not enough to achieve clinical cure. In these cases, cryosurgery with liquid nitrogen, thermotherapy, and excisional surgery are necessary as adjuvant therapies. In this study, we emphasize electrosurgery as an adjuvant treatment of cutaneous sporotrichosis, with excellent results and not previously reported.
