Thepulsed-dye laser (PDL) has beenwidely used for the treatment of cutaneous vascular lesions. Although treatmentwithPDLhas beendemonstrated tobe safe in general, it can cause complications including scars, blisters, dyspigmentation, or dermatitis. Recently, PDL has been increasingly used to treat ecchymoses following cosmetic procedures, such as botulinum toxin or filler injections. However, in ecchymoses, erythrocytes are accumulated in a localized area.As such, the density of chromophore in ecchymoses is higher than that in vascular lesions. Therefore, PDL treatment of ecchymoses can cause bulk heating, which can increase the risk of complications. Here, the authors present 2 patients with hypertrophic scarring as a complication from the use of PDL to treat ecchymoses.
