In 1981, Noe and colleagues described a persistent erythema on the nose seen after postrhinoplasty. In these patients with the “postrhinoplasty red nose syndrome” individuals developed telangiectasia of the nasal dorsum, ala and columella after nose surgery due to blood vessel dilation. We have seen an increasing number of patients experiencing similar telangiectasies on the lateral cheeks postrhytidectomy or facelift surgery. This uncommon complication typically appears within months to years postoperatively as asymptomatic dilated vessels over the bilateral preauricular areas of the lateral cheeks. This entity has not yet been identified as a side effect of facelift surgery in the literature. We aim to further characterize this condition by reviewing the vascular lesions that particularly involve the lateral face, and offer our experience in diagnosis and treatment.
