With the recent rise in interest for elective aesthetic procedures, millennials represent an important and growing share of the patient base. A recent survey from the American Society forDermatologic Surgery reported that millennials experienced 50% and 200% increases in injectable neuromodulators and soft tissue fillers, respectively, within thepast5years.Similarly, a survey fromthe American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery found that 74% of facial plastic surgeons had a greater number of patients younger than 30 years undergoingminimally invasiveprocedures, representinga 32% increase over 3 years. To meet this growing demand, aesthetic-focused facilities have proliferated across the country at an astounding pace. For example, in 2018, there were more than 5,400 medical spas with average revenue of more than $1.5 million. Recent discussion in thefield of aesthetics has focused on differences in provider types and practice settings. With millennials representing an expanding share of cosmetic consumers, we sought to evaluate their perspectives on aesthetic procedures inbothmedical spasandphysicianpractices to shed more light on this important topic.
