Research Letters E99 Know Your Numbers: Patient and Physician Disparity in Cardiovascular Risk Perception After an Acute Coronary Syndrome S prevention through cardiac rehabilitation (CR) focuses on optimization of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors and healthy lifestyle adoption. Nevertheless, participation in CR counseling sessions is low, and there is considerable room for improvement in lifestylerelated risk factors.1,2 Patient understanding of the disease and its related causes have been reported to be central factors in behavioral change.3,4 Therefore, to improve participation in lifestyle counseling and adoption of a healthy lifestyle, patient recognition of modifiable causes of CVD is vital. Although some studies showed a correspondence between risk factors reported by the physician and the patient,5 other studies indicated that there is disparity.6,7 We therefore aimed to investigate patient perceived causative CVD risk factors as compared with physician reported risk factors in a large group of patients participating in CR.
