In this study patients were given the choice of watching the cystoscopy procedures. Interestingly enough, in male patients there was no difference in pain perception, whereas in female patients there was a significant reduction in pain in those who visualized the cystoscopy. Not surprisingly, there was a decrease in pain perception in those individuals who had previously undergone cystoscopy. It may be beneficial to encourage female patients to watch their cystoscopy on the monitor.
