M alignant melanoma occurs in approximately 2% to 3% of all cancers and can rarely arise primarily in the cervix. A search of theMedline database from 1950 to 29 February 2016 revealed 96 reported cases, with the great majority (79/96 or 82%) reported after 1990. The increasing trend of reported cases of cervical melanoma may, in part, be due to improved diagnostic accuracy, especially since the advent of immunohistochemical staining. We present our experience with one such case and several learning points to highlight from it.
