Although the atherosclerotic process is similar in all the districts involving endothelial dysfunction, lipid accumulation, and inflammatory cell infiltration, atherosclerotic plaque composition may differ in one particular vascular bed compared with another one [2]. This may be the reason why similar medical and interventional treatments may lead to a different long-term result on the basis of the treated vascular bed.
