THE HISTORY JimHansen, MSN, RN-BC, Shares the History of The Nurse Residency Column When Dr. Belinda Peutz, the founder of the National Nursing Staff Development Organization and Editor of the then Journal for Nurses in Staff Development (JNSD), approached me in 2009 and invited me to join the Editorial Board for the JNSD, I was elated. Having the opportunity to collaborate directly with such an inspiring and visionary woman was a dream come true for an average, acute care, professional development nurse like me. Dr. Puetz knew that I was passionate about new graduate nurse transition to practice (TTP) and immediately began by havingme peer-review every article the JNSD received on new graduate nurses and an emerging professional development initiative callednurse residency programs (NRPs). The NRP world really was still in its earliest stages then, although there were some good practices and solid NRP models published in the literature.
