G iven the autonomous nature of home healthcare (HHC) nursing and the complexity of patients requiring this type of care, HHC agencies have traditionally employed nurses with inpatient experience (Pierotti, 2019). However, rising demands for HHC nursing services coupled with a competitive employment market have led to challenges in filling available nursing positions. Only 4.5% of all registered nurses work in HHC compared to over 54.8% who practice in hospitals (Smiley et al., 2021), and because 55% of these nurses are greater than 50 years of age (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2021), strategies to attract younger nurses, such as those new to practice (NTP), are particularly necessary to keep pace with retirement rates and HHC demand.
