R ecently, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing partneredwith TheDAISY Foundation to issue a national call for faculty recognition. DAISY, an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, is a program honoring exemplary nurses, and now nurse faculty and students, for their roles in extraordinary compassionate care. The program is in memory of Patrick Barnes whose family established the foundation to recognize nurses as unsung heroes in health care. Our School of Nursing has implemented The DAISYAward for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty and Students. Successful implementation of this program includes aligning criteria of the Award to School of Nursing values, generating awareness of the partnership with DAISY through existing marketing channels, ensuring ease of nomination submissions from both within the school and from clinical and community partners who participate in DAISY, and establishing a selection process via creation of 2 peer-group committees who vote on blinded nominations. To generate nominations, we promoted the program simultaneously for faculty and students in both print and social media, including aQR code connected directly to the nomination forms on thewebsite that can be scanned using a mobile device. Nominations were generated from students, alumni, patients, faculty, and staff. Honorees are recognized publicly at the pinning ceremonies. The DAISY program is bolstering a culture of support and reminding faculty of why they chose to be nurse educators.
