A cademic nurse educators are professional scholars, pedagogical innovators, and research developers for the science of nursing education. As such, there is universal support for the academic nurse educator to be doctorally prepared. Specifically, the discipline needs doctorally prepared academic nurse educators who can contribute to pedagogical knowledge aswell as the advancement of the science of nursing education. This requires the nurse educator to be prepared in teaching and learning, curriculum, and evaluation to advance the science of nursing education. The purpose of this article is to offer how individuals with a doctor of education (EdD) in nursing education degree can contribute to pedagogical knowledge in the discipline, provide competency in the nurse educator role, and advance the science of nursing education.
