D r. Kristina Orth-Gomér was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1945 and passed away on May 14, 2020. With her passing, we lost a major pioneer and scientific contributor at the nexus of basic medical science, public health science, preventive medicine, and psychosomatic/behavioral medicine. We feel great sorrow that Kristina ́s impressive career came to an end after a longstanding chronic disease. We appreciate the many contributions she made, advancing science with studies that charted new territories, and expanded our field with her open, warm-hearted international approach. Kristina grew up and received her Baccalaureate in 1963 at the Whitlockska Samskolan in Stockholm. She focused on French, English and German, got competencies in philosophy, mathematics and was an excellent piano player. After studying literature in France, Kristina chose to study medicine and received her M.D. and her Ph.D. from the Karolinska Institutet. She became an Associate Professor at the Swedish National Institute for Psychosocial Medicine, served as Professor at the National Institute for Psychosocial Factors and Health and from 1996-2007 served as a Professor of Community Medicine at Karolinska Institutet. She became Professor Emerita in 2008 and Visiting Professor at The Charité Universitäts-medizin in Berlin. Kristina was married to Hermann
