The Shock Society has transformed and changed dramatically since its inception in 1978. Areas of research evolved, membership grew, advocacy and diversity were introduced, and the annual meeting is now attended by almost 500 scientists from all over the world. To ensure our Society’s preparedness for the future, council believes it is imperative to have our Society’s structure and vision assessed and a Strategic Plan developed. A professional consulting company was hired and with their help we have started to work on a Strategic Plan. As first steps we had administered questionnaires and engaged in conference calls with a broad group of representative members. Subsequently, this was narrowed down to a smaller group while still making sure the entire membership is represented. After almost 2 years of this process the Strategic Plan was approved at our annual meeting and we have since worked on measurable deliverables. I am happy to share with you our Strategic Plan including vision, mission, and measuring its implementation. We want to make sure that the Shock Society’s vision is aligned with its priorities and its function. Almost every committee is aligned with a Strategic Priority. Each Committee Chair will work with the Strategic Priority Leads. This close relationship ensures close collaboration and communication between the committees and senior membership, Council and Executive Council. The strategic plan is set for 3 to 5 years. This plan includes specific deliverables and outcome measures that will be used to guide implementation of the plan and measure its efficacy. These deliverables will be reported back to you, our members. This is a work in progress; informed by conversations and collaborations with our membership. We value and welcome your feedback and encourage you to share your thoughts on how to serve our members better. Marc Jeschke President, Shock Society
