To the Editor: We read with interest the milestone work in Annals of Surgery by Chowdhury et al about the efficacy and safety of perioperative probiotics or synbiotics on postoperative infections in adult patients undergoing elective abdominal surgery. This is a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials that registered in Cochrane Library, hence it was well performed following a strict methodology.
