The US spends 2 to 3 times as much per capita on health care as other high-income nations. Yet despite that outspending, Americans, on average, have poorer outcomes. The key part of that phrase is “ on average. ” For many, health expectations are no better than they are in under-resourced third-world nations. What we need is precision health at scale. Our de fi nition of precision medicine should be broadened to include the broader construct of SDoH and the behavioral psychology that in fl uen-ces engagement in health. Commercially available digital health products can realize the promise of precision health through a combination of app-accessibility, novel sensing, and monitoring devices that provide individual biofeedback as well as engagement with real and virtual coaching — all built on a foundation of behavioral economics practices. Health systems are poised to leverage similar tools to deliver precision health at scale in a way that can enable better health for all and, in turn, improve their clinical outcomes and fi nancial performance.
