You have been internationally trained, attending Medical School at Vanderbilt, and training in Internal Medicine in Singapore, Houston and Cornell. How did this international education shape your work in Singapore? AV: I feel very privileged to have had training at these diverse and renowned institutions and I think (and hope) that I have absorbed and adopted the best aspects to my practice in Singapore. Through Medical School and Internal Medicine training in Singapore, I remember 2 superb physicians: Professor Thomas Brittingham from Vanderbilt and Professor Seah Cheng Siang from Singapore. Both had great clinical acumen and I aspired to emulate them and their holistic approach to patients. InHouston,my early training in transplantation with Dr. Barry Kahan taught me how to approach research questions with rigor andmeticulousness. My training in Houston and later at Cornell also gave me opportunities to network with the best minds in transplantation; when attending a transplant conference, I felt truly privileged, Dr. Kahan or Dr. Suthanthiran (Cornell) would introduce me to yet another renowned transplant expert. Most importantly, this international experience allowed me to benchmark our transplant program in Singapore with some of the best institutions in the world.
