This paper introduces a fundamentally different type of switched-capacitor dc–dc converter with large voltage swing flying capacitors, which is made efficient using advanced multiphasing soft charging. A single-capacitor topology is derived that behaves like a gyrator and achieves a continuously scalable-conversion-ratio with high efficiency. A circuit fabricated in a 28-nm CMOS process demonstrates the working principle of the presented topology and advances the state of the art by achieving a peak efficiency of 93%, and a single-topology 0.9–2.03-V output voltage range with more than 90% efficiency at an input voltage of 2 V.
