We propose a joint channel estimation and data detection approach based on expectation maximization for quantized millimeter wave massive multiple-input and multiple-output systems. Unlike the conventional compressed sensing method, estimating channel based on pilots, the proposed method not only uses these pilots, but also exploits the data recovered from the previous iteration. As a result, the performance can be improved compared with the training-based ones. In addition, our proposed scheme is capable of feeding back the estimated large-scale fading coefficients and channel sparsity level to the automatic gain control to adjust the dynamic range of the received signals. Finally, the numerical results verify the performance improvement of the proposed approach.
