Validation of synthetic storm technique (SST) has been done for prediction of attenuation due to rain over a hilly, high-rainfall, tropical location, Shillong (25°N, 91°E), India. In this letter, considering one year of rain attenuation and rain rate data shows that SST predicted attenuation overestimates while comparing the available experimental result. Storm speed has been found to have no significant effect on the attenuation prediction by SST. Second-order rain attenuation prediction, i.e., prediction of fade slope, has also been studied. Fade slope is found to have been overestimated by SST for all categories of rain events at 20.2- and 30.3-GHz frequency. Exceedance plot of fade duration by SST shows an overestimation for higher frequency and underestimation for lower frequency.
