The life and achievements of Charles Proteus Steinmetz are well documented in the historical archives preserved from his work and private life since his emigration from Breslau, Germany, to the United States in 1889. That same year, he began working in Yonkers, New York, for Osterheld and Eickemeyer, manufacturers of woodworking machinery and steam and gas engines. His notoriety as a brilliant mathematician and electrical engineer transcended many technical professionals of his time. He enjoyed sharing his ideas and socialized with fellow engineers at professional society meetings, which he often attended.
