The articles in this special section examines the future of wireless communication. Future wireless communications will change the way we think about how we communicate with one another. By significantly increasing the frequency of operation to millimeter waves and the terahertz spectrum (and the inherent wider instantaneous bandwidths available) or by combining signals over the air using multiple-input/ multiple-output methodologies, these systems will significantly increase the possible bit rates and thus allow for various different communications scenarios. To design and evaluate the quality of these new systems, measurements are key for future engineers working in these fields. Not only do the new frequency regimes add measurement complicat ions, but the operating modes of many proposed systems place added emphasis on the importance of linearity analysis.
