In this paper, we introduce a joint approach for peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction and predistortion for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems subjected to strong memoryless nonlinearity. The proposed approach is new and promising concept that consists in a really synergistic combination of the two operations in order to improve power amplifier efficiency and linearity. Its key idea is to synthesize a correction signal in a Ping-Pong manner between PAPR reduction and predistortion. The proposed Ping-Pong joint optimization approach provides significant improvement, compared to conventional schemes, in system energy efficiency while fulfilling out-of-band requirements and preserving low in-band distortion.
