A hybrid switched-inductor (HS-L) buck topology with a coupled inductor is utilized for power factor correction using clamped current mode control to implement a high-efficiency non-isolated LED driver. Compared to the conventional buck topology, the HS-L buck has lower losses attributed to lower conduction losses in the inductor and diode, and a wider discontinuous conduction mode range. Experimental results verify higher efficiency using the HS-L buck compared to the conventional buck topology, achieving efficiency above 92% and power factor above 0.9 over the universal input range.
