Temperature estimation is highly significant in the design stages and analysis of permanent magnet (PM) machines. In this paper, for permanent magnet couplers (PMCs), a semi-analytical model to estimate the temperature is developed, which is able to give consideration to efficiency and applied in more complicated structure. Also, the magnetic flux path, as well as the eddy currents, are depicted through a simplified geometric topology. Moreover, the eddy current loss, taken as the heat source loss, is effectively and quickly calculated by employing magnetic equivalent circuit and Kirchhoff's law. Compared with the experimental results, this model has a good agreement with the experimental results where the deviation is within 6.67%. Finally, some constructive suggestions have been given for prediction, optimization and monitoring of PMCs.
