In this work, a high-performance stripe-shaped light-emitting diode (LED) with a size of $7500\times 300\,\,\mu \text{m}^{{2}}$ is reported. With the optimized electrode design, the current can be evenly injected into the elongated chip, achieving a uniform light distribution without the use of external optics. Compared with the conventional cubic LED, the light output performance of the stripe-shaped LED (S-LED) at high current levels is significantly improved, which is mainly due to the enhanced heat dissipation. White light emission is also demonstrated by covering the chip with the yellow phosphor film. With the advantages of reduced luminous exitance, uniform illumination, and improved light output, the S-LEDs are not only suitable for various lighting applications but can also be used as backlight units for display panels.
