This paper presents a comparative study of harmonic current suppression control strategies for dc-biased vernier reluctance machines (dc-biased-VRMs). The back electromotive force waveforms of dc-biased-VRMs contain low-order harmonics. It leads to harmonic currents in phase windings. To eliminate the low-order harmonic currents, two types of representative architectures, namely closed-loop current control with proportional integral and resonant regulators and specific order harmonics compensation algorithm in multilevel rotating reference frame, are theoretically analyzed. The performance of the two architectures is compared in terms of accuracy, complexity, and dynamic performance for harmonic current suppression. The experimental results obtained are presented. It verifies that the two strategies have their specific advantages.
