This article presents the design and experimental tests of a modified braking control for induction machines using the scalar control method. The proposed method is able to brake the machine with improved performance without using a dissipation resistor in the dc link. For this, two supplementary control loops inside the scalar control structure are used. The first loop controls the dc voltage and the second one controls the stator current during the braking process. The proposed method is implemented in an industrial voltage-source inverter and evaluated in two different induction motor dynamometers.
