In this article, we propose a purely electromagnetic propulsion unit (meaning that no mechanical gear is considered to transfer its torque or speed). This propulsion system is obtained based on an electric motor with an integrated magnetic multiplier electrical machine with integrated magnetic multiplier (EMIMM)—multiplier stands for speed multiplication. The EMIMM is offering two levels of torque and speed, and at the same time, the speed is multiplied without increasing the supplying frequency of the electric motor. Thus, two benefits are expected: the motor efficiency is not affected by the increased speed and the mechanical stress on the static converter is reduced (and, consequently, better controllability is obtained). To validate the proposed solution, the EMIMM's structure is analytically, numerically (through finite-element analysis), and experimentally investigated, and good agreement is found for the validation of the study.
