This article proposes a new approach to an old challenge in the magnetic cores of power transformers and other magnetic devices with grain-oriented (GO) electrical steels. The main aim of this article is to evaluate the effects of interlaminar faults (ILFs) of different configurations on dynamic performance and dynamic energy losses of the magnetic cores with GO silicon steels. In the relevant studies, artificial short circuits of different configurations were applied between the laminations of stacks of four Epstein size laminations of 3% GO silicon steel. The results showed that ILF evaluation and core quality assessment can be effectively done by interpreting the dynamic hysteresis loops of the cores.
