In this article, field-reconstruction method (FRM) is proposed for predicting the performance of different types of rotational resolvers, including wound-rotor (WR) and variable reluctance (VR) ones. The main features of the developed method are comparable accuracy with that of the finite element method (FEM) as well as much less computational burden. The deviation of the developed model in the prediction of position error of WR and VR resolvers is less than 3%. However, the computational burden of the proposed method for different type of resolvers is from 30 up to 150 times less than that of FEM. Accordingly, the proposed model can be used for the design and optimization of different resolvers. Experimental tests on the prototype WR resolver verify the success of the analysis in the modeling of the resolvers.
