A novel electrodynamic suspension device using an asymmetrical double-sided Halbach array is proposed in this paper. A 3-D analytical model describing the eddy current field and the electromagnetic force is established via the second-order vector potential formulation. The validity of the analytical model is verified by both finite-element simulations and an experiment. The configuration of the proposed suspension device is optimized exploiting a dynamic kriging surrogate model assisted by a multi-objective genetic algorithm. The multi-objective optimization is performed utilizing the 3-D analytical model.
