Novel characteristic-impedance-reconfigurable transmission line (CIRTL) is proposed in this article. CIRTL comprises two-layer substrates, PIN diodes, and ground on one side of the transmission line and suspended ground. The characteristic impedance of the transmission line can be changed by controlling different operating states of the PIN diodes. The method for calculating the characteristic impedance of CIRTL is given. Based on the proposed CIRTL, a four-way reconfigurable power divider (RPD) is designed. CIRTL is used to realize reconfigurable matching networks (RMNs). Arbitrary output ports are selected as transmission ports by different bias states of PIN diodes. Four working modes and 15 operating states can be realized by the proposed RPD. The proposed RPD can be extended to N working modes and $2^{N} -1$ operating states.
