Potassium is the most abundant intracellular ion: only 2% of potassium is found in the extracellular space [1]. Hyperkalemia ([K] > 5.1 mEq/L) is related to increased mortality and cardiovascular events [2]. Incidence of hyperkalemia increased from 2% to 42% since the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was less than 60 ml/min/1.73 m. The impact of hyperkalemia (hyperK) has not been studied in dialysis-dependent patients. The present study would evaluate the association between hyperkalemia in pre-dialysis (preHD) and the days of hospitalization in dialysis-dependent patients.
