Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health 427 © 2021 The Authors The author has stated the following conflict of interest: The author is a member of the South Sudanese community in Victoria, and has been advisor to the Australian Government. This is an open access article under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs License, which permits use and distribution in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited, the use is non-commercial and no modifications or adaptations are made. Melbourne’s South Sudanese community is a new migrant community. Like my family, the majority have resettled in Australia under the humanitarian program for refugees, between 2001 and 2005. This is a low socioeconomic group with a median age of 33 years.1
