Recurrent abdominal pain is a common complaint in the emergency department, but the appropriate workup and management of patients with frequent visits is unclear. We discuss the GRACE-2 guidelines on low-risk, recurrent abdominal pain in the emergency department published in Academic Emergency Medicine, May 2022. The guidelines address 4 issues: the role of repeat computed topography (CT) when another CT has been performed within 12 months, the role of ultrasound after a negative CT, the role of screening for depression and anxiety, and the role of opioids. We provide critical analysis of the article, and summarize the social media discussion and a podcast in which the authors discuss their work.
