As part of my postgraduate geriatrician experience, we established a novel GeriatricsVascular surgery comanagement service that involved embedding a geriatrician (myself) into the surgical ward. This initiative recognised the risks older people face in surgical wards. They have coexisting multiple medical problems, frailty and complex care needs and, as a result, are prone to typical geriatric syndromes like delirium, falls, and pressure injury.
