Journal General Surgery GS001 EPIDEMIOLOGY OF SEVERE ACUTE PANCREATITIS, FOCUSING ON ANZ S. GEORGE BARRETO, BILLLINGSLEY KAAMBWA, SHAILESH BIHARI AND DAVID PILCHER Flinders University, South Australia Comprehensive data on the burden of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) in global intensive care units (ICUs) and their trends over time are lacking. In this presentation, I will compare trends in hospital and ICU mortality, in-hospital and ICU length of stay, and costs related to ICU admission in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) for SAP over a period of 18 years. These findings are based on a recently concluded study conducted by the P-ANZICS collaborative using data from the ANZ Intensive Care Society (ANZICS) Adult Patient Database (APD). The prospectively maintained ANZICS APD contains information regarding 3 million ICU admissions and presently covers 98% of ICUs in Australia and 67% of ICUs in New Zealand. These findings will be discussed on the background of another recent study from the Netherlands as well as other global data. These data are important when prioritizing the allocation of resources for healthcare delivery as well as targeting clinical research to identify treatments aimed at reducing mortality which remains a major
