Journal Senior Surgeons Program SS001 EQUITY IN SURGERY: GOVERNANCE – TURNING WORDS INTO ACTION CHERIE HOLMES United States of America Long-term success of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Cultural Safety and Belonging requires a solid framework of policies, systems and structure, definition of mission and workflows driven by executive surgical and healthcare leaders and groups and DEIB healthcare leaders and their organizations. Understanding one’s role and responsibility in the process is necessary for clarity and unencumbered success. Leveraging strategic affiliations and integrated policies are showing early and encouraging success in Australia through RACS and AIDA, the Pacific Region as well as in the United States with groups like the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. SS002 THE GOLDEN YEARS – RETIRING IN AMERICA CHERIE HOLMES United States of America Is the aging physician too old to practice surgery? Where does the future lie to continue to practice and teach medicine? Recognition of physical and mental health wellness, benefits and opportunities beyond surgical practice require exploration, openness and acceptance.
