Publishing, as everything else these days, is living in the fast lane. From writing to printing these words, our topmost original articles will have changed. Citations bode very well for Acta Physiologica, suggesting another stark increase in our impact factor after the large leap the impact factor took last year. Yet, what may interest authors and readers even more are the prospects for our Acta Physiologica Award, which is probably the greatest prize ever to be presented in recognition of scientific publishing. Being lean and muscular, Acta Physiologica rather publishes fewer, but better, manuscripts. From January 2015 to date (late summer 2017), we have 23 manuscripts that already have double-digit citations. Remarkably, a 2016 manuscript is already found in the top five. This ranking is unusually good, as the 2015 manuscript has had more time for being cited than those from 2016. It is critical that we adjust for the exact publication time when piecing together the Acta Physiologica Award short list. Currently, there are very well-cited and downloaded manuscripts in the fields of exercise and muscle physiology. Endocrinology is on top presently, but the renal field is catching up fast. As the situation changes by the week, we are tracking developments very closely. By the end of March, we will have identified this year’s winner, and the time window shifts by a year to span 2016-2017. You, all authors in Acta Physiologica, are in near reach of the award, as original articles are not plenty!
